Storm surge from Hurricane Irene destroyed a 900-foot section of the road, stranding residents and workers and cutting off tourist access to the area. National Park Service Ranger Jeff Goad looks at the destruction to N.C. 12 on the north edge of Rodanthe on Hatteras Island.
